TTO Discovery Day 2: Science and the Senses – Learning Through English

RSG Enkhuizen

Today, we welcomed a new group of enthusiastic pupils from group 8 for the second Discovery Day in our TTO (Dual Language Education) series. Under the theme Science and the Senses, pupils explored how science and mathematics connect to the way we perceive the world – all while working in English.

During this interactive day, the pupils took part in a variety of hands-on projects and challenges. They investigated questions such as how our senses can sometimes mislead us, completed taste tests and learnt how pulley systems behave, and not forgetting how mathematical thinking helps us solve real-life problems. Each activity was designed to encourage curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration.

What made the day extra special was that all instructions, discussions, and presentations took place in English. Pupils used their language skills naturally while experimenting, measuring, calculating and drawing conclusions together. In this way, they experienced first-hand how English is not just a subject, but a practical tool for learning and communication and is a central part of the TTO-programme at the RSG Enkhuizen, where TTO is offered from mavo to vwo.

The energy, creativity and confidence shown by the pupils were impressive. They asked thoughtful questions, worked enthusiastically in teams and proudly shared their findings at the end of the sessions.

Discovery Day 2 was another inspiring step in our TTO journey. We look forward to welcoming the next group of pupils for the upcoming Discovery Days and giving them a taste of what Dual Language Education learning at our school is all about.

Looking ahead

The next TTO Discovery Day will take place on 10th February and will be themed Create and Communicate! Don’t forget your tto passport for the next events! TTO, your passport to success!
