Day 3 in Enkhuizen
5 februari 2025
Our international Erasmus+ group met this mornign early for their boat trip to Medemblik. With the sun out and the water calm, the group were met with the most beautiful picture-postcard photos for the north West-Friesland headlands as the boat made its way to the village, where two museums were to be visited.
With the groups split in two, the award-winning Bakery Museum was visited, where the pupils saw how Speculaas biscuits were made; a name derived from the Latin for mirror, which is exactly what you get when the dough is extracted from the centuries-old moulds. They were shown how lollipops are made from sugar, water and some vibrant colouring. Of course with Valentine’s Day not so far away, the pupils were able to decorate their self-made heart-shaped cookies with roses made of marzipan.
The second museum was the “War Museum” – a stark contrast to the Bakery Museum, however, an important one nonetheless with our theme of RESPECT, for both those soldiers who died for our country as well as respect for the freedom that we all enjoy and take for granted. The hands-on elements of the museum and the ‘escape rooms’ were thoroughly enjoyed by the groups.
A boat trip back to Enkhuizen was the icing on the cake and the stories of their day were shared and the presents made from dough were shown and compared…for whom might they be?
