Erasmus+ Day 4 – From Sketchbook to Spotlight: Creativity Takes the Stage

RSG Enkhuizen

The days were long, but the week flew by — and before we knew it, the grand finale had arrived!

The morning began quietly, almost unusually so. Pupils paused to reflect on everything the week had brought: sustainability, inequality, climate change, inclusion — big themes that had slowly moved from theory to lived experience. But the calm did not last long.

Soon, the Erasmus Room transformed completely. Tables disappeared under fabric, sketches, and supplies as pupils moved into a full creative sprint. Sewing machines hummed, scissors worked overtime, glue dried in layers, and glitter seemed to settle on absolutely everything. Hair spray hung in the air, makeup palettes stayed open, and last-minute adjustments became the rhythm of the room. In the middle of the organized chaos, SDG outfits began taking shape — bold, imaginative, and entirely pupil-made.

Behind the scenes, the pressure was just as real. Scripts went through final rewrites, cues were practiced, roles were reassigned, and timing was checked again and again. What would later look smooth and effortless on stage had been built through hours of teamwork, negotiation, and creative problem-solving. Then came the shift — from preparation to performance.

The catwalk lights felt brighter than expected, and the stage more intimidating up close than it had during rehearsals. But once the first steps were taken, the energy changed. Music filled the space, the audience leaned in, and confidence grew with every outfit revealed. Applause came quickly — and often.

What had started earlier that day as fabric, sketches, and loose ideas in the Erasmus Room now moved under the spotlights with confidence. Each outfit carried a message — about inequality, sustainability, climate change, inclusion — and about the power of young people to make those themes visible.

This was more than a fashion show. It was the SDGs on the catwalk, translated into creativity, teamwork, and courage. For one evening, our pupils stepped into the role of HEREOs: not by having all the answers, but by daring to ask better questions and show the world what they care about.

A bold finale to a week that proved global challenges do not have to feel distant — they can be designed, worn, and walked straight into the spotlight.
