Quaint, quintessential Quimper
24 maart 2025
After a lengthy travel day on Sunday to the jewel in Brittany, the picture-postcard town of Quimper, we met our counterparts at the Collège La Sablière on Monday morning. Our Spanish counterparts had also made their way to the North-western department.
The morning started with a rousing speech given by the Erasmus Coordinator Kristell Le Neillon-Menguy, pulling together all of the learning from the mobilities in Spain and The Netherlands, underlining how important respect is in our ever-changing society. Films of the adventures so far raised a few laughs at the photos that came by with Justin Timberlake’s number playing.
The ice needed to be broken and there the school had set up the gym hall to engage the pupils in a lot of fun activities to win points for a trophy, from shooting baskets, to charades, to the caterpillar circuit and the human pyramids, laughs were abundant and serious competition ensued.
A three-course lunch later and it was time to settle into the main event on Monday afternoon: the Quimper Express competition – a circuit of puzzle pieces and a word to find the final location of the Erasmus Coordinator, who had secluded herself in the Secret Garden of Quimper “Le Jardin de la Retraite.”
After getting to know the town a little better, it was time to learn a little Breton, which is very different to modern French, where ‘lundi’ or Monday is ‘Delun’ for example. Amazing that there is so much respect for maintaining this language as part of France’s heritage.
With some free time behing us, it was time to go for the next three-course (evening) meal at the Lycée Le Paraclet, which didn’t disappoint…French cuisine certainly is a treat here.
