Sunshine, Smiles and Lots of Walking in London
20 mei 2026
Today our pupils headed to the big lights of the capital city, London, for a day packed with famous sights, memorable experiences and plenty of steps on the walking counter!
The day began with a visit to the world-famous Natural History Museum, where the group enjoyed VIP-style access by skipping the long queues outside. Once inside, the pupils were immediately amazed by the enormous museum halls filled with treasures, discoveries and fascinating exhibits. From adventurous explorers worthy of Indiana Jones to giant dinosaur skeletons straight out of Jurassic Park, there was something to capture everyone’s imagination. The gigantic skeleton greeting visitors in the photo below certainly made an unforgettable first impression: the immense skeleton of a whale!
From the museum, the group continued on foot through the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park, soaking up the atmosphere of the city and this immense green space. The walk then led the pupils towards the famous statue of Victoria, in front of the home of King Charles III, Buckingham Palace and at the start of the long stretch of road called The Mall.
Of course, no trip to London would be complete without a little shopping. During some free time in the charming streets of Covent Garden, souvenir shopping quickly rose to the top of everyone’s priority list. Many pupils returned proudly carrying bags filled with gifts, sweets and reminders of their time in the capital.
After all the walking, a well-earned sit-down meal was definitely needed. The group headed to Pizza Hut for dinner where, although perhaps not traditionally English, the food was certainly enjoyed by all. With pizza slices continuing to arrive at the table, students happily chose their favourites and recharged after a busy day exploring the city.
Tonight, suitcases will once again be packed in preparation for the long journey back to Enkhuizen tomorrow. Over the past few days, the pupils have learned far more than just facts about England. They have shown growing independence, responsibility and confidence, while also demonstrating just how much English they can already use after only their first year in Dual Language Education.
It is something not only parents can be proud of, but the entire DLE teaching team as well.
